Ethnic Minorities

Right Click Fix are proud to be part of C.R.E.S.T (Compact For Racial Equality in South Tyneside). It was getting the job of setting up a computer network for CREST last year whilst being unemployed that gave me (Andy) the final push into self employment. Since then we've done a lot of work for the asian community in South Shields alone and I've personally learned a lot about muslims, indians, asians, arabs and more along the way. Most important of all is the fact that I grew up in South Shields and like most of you "sand dancer's" out there have seen the asian community grow a hell of a lot in South Shields. I used to be ignorant to it and could nowadays be considered to be racist for my (ignorant) thoughts and comments in years gone by as I worried about jobs and others "coming over here and taking all our jobs, etc. etc." like most others around town, borough, country...

Lets face it! The world has been torn apart by war and religion and the only people that have suffered are the ones that were blown out of their homes and towns by bombs and soldiers. This could get very deep and I'm no politician but I have witnessed the Iraq war refugees here in "owld Sheedy" who were doctors and lawyers etc, over there and have got literally nothing to their name but the clothes they fled in which really hit home for me! All these people struggling on my doorstep and I knew nothing about it? It saddened me and it should sadden you too! These aren't illegal immigrants who flee their country hoping for a better life, they were forced to flee their country looking for shelter!

If you take the time to learn the hard facts about other cultures, religions and general family life that differ from your own then I'm pretty sure you'd be pleasantly surprised at how many are actually "sand dancer's" themselves. I've got some lovely friends now and don't judge them by their skin colour or cultural behaviour. I've fixed, built and maintained computers for a lot of people and their skin colour has never mattered to us at all. In fact it saddens us that there's people out there in this day and age that still think that way given the worlds multi-cultural society we live in.

One of the best jobs I ever had was when I was called out from the computer shop I used to work in to assist a collegue who was already there and struggling badly with four arab students with four laptops strewn all over the floor and all in arabic ha ha. Luckily for me I found that one of them spoke a little Spanish and having learned a little myself we actually got the job done by communicating in Spanish which I'm quite proud of :) VIRGIN Media were taken aback when I gave my name as the clients of which I won't even try to repeat here and it was in a broad geordie accent too which we had a good laugh about and the phone technician was very understanding given the circumstances and helped me through it. So I connected four laptops all of which were set in arabic up to the net via a router I installed and done it all by speaking Spanish.
Muy Bien :)
