Andy decided to close the Right Click Fix Face Book account in early December 2011 after it became abusive and really not worth the effort of supporting people publicly! One incident which began as a favour ended very badly with a client trying to catch Andy out by taking a transcript of his messages via Face Book in order to get him into trouble after he quoted a “probable” price for a repair which ended up costing more and ended up costing him personally. Andy’s only error of judgement was to go ahead with the repair without the clients consent as it wasn’t a lot more to pay but it was taken for granted it needed repairing and he’s apologized for his mistake.

From now on ALL calls and contact go via Janet on the mobile phone or either one of us via the land line/home phone. No more social networking for business! Once bitten twice shy as they say! Please don’t ask Andy to “have a look when your not busy” etc. as this too has led to trouble with clients waiting too long and getting frustrated and blaming Andy saying he’s ‘forgotten’ when he hasn’t, it just needs booking in. If you want us to repair your computer or computer related issue it MUST be booked in for a certain time and day so nobody is left out or forgotten about.

We feel that this will be better for us all and we hope you understand that communication is paramount to our business as we need to co-ordinate jobs in order to keep everyone happy.

Having had a look at a couple of tablet pc’s for clients recently I’ve decided to get one myself so I can understand them better and in turn can help you better! More than anything else though I think that the simple fact that Google’s Android OS is already spreading like a virus on all our computers and phones around the globe which opens up the market in a massive way.

Both Microsoft & Apple are going to suffer in sales due to all the iPad rip off’s but we’re all in for a fresh influx of computer goodies for the foreseable future and China is once again booming, LOL

So don’t be stuck if your tablets playing up,

We get a good few calls asking how much it’ll be to set up a wireless router so we thought it best to explain ourselves here. Setting up a router these days is easy if it’s from your ISP (Internet Service Provider) as they come pre-configured and the security is written on them but if your a user who’s always only had one computer who’d always had a modem connection via ethernet cable then you’ll be wondering just what a router is?

Andy charges £40 to install one these days as there’s usually another laptop to setup, clean out & maybe needs a driver update as well as wireless games consoles in bedrooms all of which have their own little issues with wireless or they’re shoved in a cupboard which isn’t good for the wireless signal. We feel that for £40 and setting up all of your computers is reasonable. Do be wary of people offering a cheap installation fee then asking for £5 or so for extra devices as it does happen. If it turns out to be a quick and simple job for Andy and he’s got it done efficiently he’ll only charge £30. £40 covers his time for two hours as well as adding all your goodies onto the network.

There’s loads more obstacles that can crop up too like maybe you got a wireless printer and that needs to be set up on the router too? There’s a few ways of doing this and without going into details you rbetter of letting Andy do his stuff in one go so your all sorted. We could quote you £30 to set a router up and then hit loads of problems or get to you and there’s 3 laptops, a PS3, WII, XBOX 360 and an iPad to set up too as well as a wireless printer? You cannot expect to have all these devices set up for a mere £30 so by saying £40 we’re covered for time and we’re all happy :)

Andy’s van advertises “wireless specialist” on it for a reason. He’s very good at it and his experience is vast. That experience comes at a price, a very reasonable price too if you’ve read all that and understand what can be involved ;)

Jobs I’ve done (Andy)

One of the best jobs I’ve had was through a chance meeting of a nice couple in the local pub. They’d had ‘everybody’ look at their 5 computers and no-one could fix them. My friend kindly told them I would sort them but they were very wary as they’d given up hope after having so many people try. So after being summoned over I told them that it’d cost up to £50 if I was there up to three hours and if I couldn’t fix them I’d pay them £50! (bloody Strongbow, LOL). I sat with 4 laptops surrounding me and a PC in front of me and fixed them all and it did take me 3 hours. I do remember working on them all together and getting them all working wirelessly despite all the problems involved along the way but guess who got the £50 ;)

An Apple a Day Keeps Andy Away

In mid 2011 I was asked to look at a network in a large house in town. They had a SKY modem/router but the signal to the 1st and 2nd floors was poor where the iMac was and laptops in bedrooms so I was asked to setup the apple routers they had to the SKY one.

It took me all week to work it out at home but I returned and set up the Apple Airport Extreme router to the SKY router as an extended link then setup the Apple Airport Express router connected to the Extreme so all 3 devices work in unison to extend the network through the house. I loved that job :)

So, we hope that explains why we tell you £40 on the phone? but in summary:

For one, it gets rid of the clients who want and expect it done for nothing!then ask you to do more while your there at the same price.

Two, to have your wireless network set up by a professional who has to travel to you in a diesel van in a posh uniform that’s changed daily and the time it takes to do as well as arrange behind the scenes, £40 is pretty reasonable!

Lastly, Andy’s experience, advice and knowledge is worth a lot more than £40 per job so it’s nice to be appreciated.

Do be extremely careful with your laptops and tell your loved ones not to drop them as this could prove very expensive! I bought a 500gb hdd the other day and it cost me £80 at trade price which is over double what I’d usually pay so you can see what I mean.

If you do need a new hdd in your computer then expect to pay a lot more due to the flooding issue. We’ll still charge our usual rates for fitting and labour etc. I hope you understand that it’s out of our hands.
