Messaging vs Phone

The modern way of communication in todays society is via messenger, text, whatsapp etc. and I use Facebook messenger so people contact me via my page on there but it often doesn’t come through or I’m out and I miss it. I do have Facebook for Business on the works mobille nowadays as well as the YELL app having taken out a recent advert with them but a lot of the messages I get are either garbled, mis-spelt or lacking in information I require to be able to respond accorningly.

I don’t have time to sit for half an hour texting back and forth pictures of a laptop to get its model number or screen defect. I need it in my hands, my eyes need to see it, I need to touch it and the fastest way to get me to do this is to ring me! I use the Right Click fix as my own phone nowadays so its always with me and the fastest way to get a computer to me is to ring the mobile!

Here’s atext I received the other day by way of example;

Hi I’m looking for a laptop lead for an old HP laptop. Any ideas? (name)

How am I supposed to reply to that? I need the model name and number and need to know whats wrong with the old charger? is it broken? is it missing? is the DC socket (plug) on the laptop broken? If it is a new charger won’t work and the laptop will need stripping down to repair the port and the old charger might actually be ok afterall!

I replied asking for the model number of which they couldn’t find (its under the battery) so I text them saying so and told them to ring me next day so I could talk them through it. They never rang back! They simply wanted me to provide a “lead” asap and probably free!

End Of The Line

I recently received a call asking me to look at a laptop that was unable to boot up and agreed to take a look at it (freely) if they brought it over to me to which they agreed to do. A while later I received another call (voicemail) saying they’d decided to let a friend take a look at it rather than bring it to me. Now I’m a very helpful and understanding person but that to me is a terrible thing to do! So a “friend” who thinks they know what they’re doing is now going to do what they think is the right thing and if it doesn’t work they’re going to call me to probably uundo that as well the original problem.

This has to stop happening or I’ll have to up the prices or charge an initial fee for diagnosis. Its not fair being the “end of the line” as people try to save their pennies by getting friends who “know a bit” to have a look first. If this person calls back asking me to diagnose the laptop I’m going to ask £20 up front and will write a receipt for it so they can use it to their advantage.

My services are second to none, please don’t abuse them!

Right Click Fix – Terms and Conditions

Due to tecent law changes I’ve had to add this to the site for legal purposes (yawn) so do have a read up so we both know where we stand prior to you calling me to help you out. I’ll keep it as short and clear as possible! Andy

NOTE: These terms and conditions will be updated periodically as necessary to cope with the ever changing laws. I’ll put a blog post up if and when i do so for you to get a quick update.

  1. Andy of Right Click Fix reserves the right to charge a £10 fee for diagnosing a broken computer if he’s unable to take the repair any further. It all takes up time after all.
  2. If Andy calls out to your home or business to assist and you cancel en route, a £10 fee is payable to cover costs. £20 depending on distance.
  3. Right Click Fix is a home based computer repair service and is also a family home. We have 2 cats and 2 dogs (terriers) so if you’re allergic to animals or have any kind of dislike/phobia of them please let us know in advance so we can make sure they’re locked out of your should you visit for a computer repair. If you’ve read this then you’ll know to do so.
  4. All prices quoted by Andy are governed by time, distance and work taken to solve you’re computer issue. Sometimes a quick £20 clean up job on a laptop/PC might turn into a driver or hardware issue so the cost may rise slightly to cover electricity costs and extra time needed for the work. This however is very rare or Andy suffers the cost and makes it back on other “quickies” and all of our existing customers are aware of this and are happy with it (swings n roundabouts).
